POLLING: Mass Should Follow New York’s Lead on Unemployment Insurance Reform
Call it a tale of two states: On Sunday, the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance announced that it was substantially increasing the amount of benefits that the state can pay out to unemployed workers. On Wednesday, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that the Empire State would also raise its weekly benefits maximum. The difference is, unlike New York, Massachusetts can’t afford this new increase.
MOA Says Proposals to Expand Business Taxes Will Further Harm Mass Competitiveness
Since its creation, Mass Opportunity Alliance (MOA)’s mission has been to educate on the decline in competitiveness ailing our state. As such, MOA submitted written testimony urging the Committee not to advance two bills that would expand taxes on certain business, arguing they would make Massachusetts even more of an outlier while exacerbating declining job growth, driving up high costs, and pushing taxpayers out of state.
